Summary

Assists the Housekeeping Manager, in the day to day operations of the departmental services in an assigned area, ensuring optimum use of staff, materials, equipment and the maintenance of established standards

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

1.Assists in managing the day-to-day activities of Housekeeping staff and Supervisors in a designated unit. Inspection to be done in accordance with departmental requirements.

2.Monitors the standard of work produced by the supervisors   to ensure it meets the established quality standards and working book files.

3.Provides regular reports on activities related to Housekeeping in the designated area.

4.Liaises with service users on Housekeeping and related issues.

5.Check staff attendance sheets and staff allocation, monitoring leave requests closely to ensure that proper coverage is available.

6.Prepares Supervisory work assignments and checks Housekeeper work assignments and specifications in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.

7.Arranges for cleaning after construction and renovation projects in areas under his/her direct responsibility in conjunction with pest control and infection control.

8.Assists the Housekeeping Manager and Quality Coordinator to design quality control and monitoring procedures appropriate to Housekeeping services and to implement these procedures.

9.Evaluates the work performance of Supervisors and completes the necessary paperwork.

10.Recommends disciplinary action for subordinate staff, as necessary, in accordance with hospital disciplinary procedure.

11.Ensures that employees involved in construction, renovation cleaning have appropriate PPE available, and that they use it.

12.Determines what training programs supervisors and assistant supervisors require and devises them with the Quality Coordinator.

13.Ensures safe working practices are observed.

14. Undergoes training determined to be beneficial by the Department Head or Administrator and provides cover for other Assistant Managers as required.

15.Undertakes any other duties commensurate with the grade as required by the Environmental Services - Housekeeping Manager.

16. Performs unit inspections using approved checklists and documents results and actions taken at a minimum of twice annually.

17. Uses objective monitoring devices (e.g. ATP) Adenosine Triphosphate- chemical compound used by all living organisms to fuel metabolic processes such as muscle function and reproduction to determine cleanliness of patient rooms and reports results to employees and to the Housekeeping Manager, to be done monthly.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Hotel Management, Environmental Health, Business Administration or related discipline is required.

Experience Required

Three (3) years of related experience with Bachelor's Degree, including one (q) year in Managerial/ Supervisory position in Tertiary Health Care Environment required.

Other Requirements(Certificates)

Ability to speak and write fluent English.

Must have a working knowledge in MS office software (MS word, Excel).

Certified Environmental Manager.
