Summary
Manages the Operational Activities of Central Sterile Supply Distribution (CSSD).
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
1. Manages the operational activities of CSSD. Oversees activities of supervisors and their staff. Schedules staff to ensure optimum utilization of staff.
2. Assists Administration with planning for section. Develops and implements CSSD policies and procedures.
3. Maintains liaison with other departments to ensure coordination of inter-departmental activities and to resolve problems. Organizes section’s meetings to assure accurate exchange of information.
4. Ensures that proper operating procedures are developed and followed, and that there is adherence to established standards. Ensures that departmental equipment is properly used and operated, and that it is properly maintained. Ensures that staff follows safe work practices.
5. Assists with evaluation of staff work performance. Counsels staff to improve performance. Recommends disciplinary actions, hiring and firing.
6. Plans and develops guidelines for orientation and training of staff. Assists with training and orientation. Liaises with other departments for cross training. Interviews employment candidates and makes hiring recommendations.
7. Receives assigned projects and ensures that they are completed properly and on time. Maintains records and data on activities of section. Submits required reports.
8. Assists with development and maintenance of section’s budget. Maintains data pertinent to the operational activity.
9. Participates in committee meetings as assigned.
10. Reports to the Director of Perioperative Services any work related problems or issues.
Education
Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Operating and Sterilization filed or other related discipline is required.
Experience Required
Grade 11: Five (5) years of related experience including two (2) years in a seniority position with Master’s or seven (7) years with Bachelor’s Degree of similar requirements is required.
Grade 12: Seven (7) years of related experience including four (4) years as a Manager, Central Sterile Supply Distribution (Grade 11) with Master’s or nine (9) years with Bachelor’s Degree is required.
Other Requirements(Certificates)
CSSD certification or demonstrated expertise in the successful management of CSSD functional areas is required.
