Summary

Performs all Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging procedures geared toward leadership practices that include scheduling, inventory control, quality assurance practices, equipment procurement and the assists with the education and training of students and new staff.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Performs daily quality control and quality assurance on PET camera and calibrates laboratory equipment to maintain proper operation.
  2. Reviews exam orders, requisitions and corresponding protocol. Coordinates procedures with physicians.
  3. Notifies the personnel in the Radionuclide Production Department of pending patient schedule for production of proper isotopes. Logs and maintains records of dispensing and disposal of radiopharmaceuticals.
  4. Explains procedures to patient. Notifies team leader of any problems that arise.
  5. Responsible for explaining the procedure to the patient. Prepare patients for the appropriate PET/CT exams. Calculates, dispenses and administers the required radiopharmaceutical to the patient.
  6. Responsible for performing the acquisition, processing and archiving of all PET scans according to section specific protocols.
  7. Assists in development of new, investigative procedures and helps establish protocols for same in cooperation with physician. Aids in training and orientation of new employees, interns and students. Participates in in-service and continuing education programs.
  8. Observes radiation safety techniques and procedures and reports any inconsistencies to PET team leader. Assists other personnel with any problems in radiation safety.
  9. Assists in maintaining inventory of stock and non-stock supplies, informing supervisor of any items that need to be ordered.
  10. Responsible for ensuring that the images are of optimum quality after the exam is completed and that it is available on the PACS system, as well as the appropriate workstations.
  11. Responsible for ensuring that equipment is operated safely and maintained properly. Informs supervisor of safety hazards or the need for repair/maintenance.
  12. Assumes the duties of the PET supervisor in his or her absence.
  13. Comply with the section policies, procedures and protocols. Follow the section quality improvement program in accordance with CBAHI, JCI,SFDA and other accreditation agencies standards.                 
  14. Comply with the Radiation Safety Rules and Regulations of the Hospital in accordance with KACST and K.A. CARE and other National or International Regulatory bodies.
  15. Apply ALARA principle Role within the section practice for all procedures.
  16. Follows all Hospital’s related Policies and Procedures.
  17. Participates in self and others' education, training and development, as applicable.
  18. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Nuclear Medicine or Graduate from an accredited Nuclear Medicine/Radiologic Technology program, or successful completion of specialized training at KFSHRC in Radiological Sciences/Technology is required. 

Experience Required

Grade 09:

Four (4) years with Bachelor’s, or Six (6) years of related experience with training program including one (1) year of experience in PET is required.

Grade 10:

  • Four (4) years as Senior Technologist, PET at KFSHRC, or (Grade 09) related experience is required.
  • One-hundred (100) cumulative continued medical education[CME]. 

 

 

Other Requirements(Certificates)

  • Current Registration from country of origin and Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS) is required.
  • Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or equivalent is required for non-Saudis.
