Our mission is to provide the highest level of specialized healthcare in an integrated educational and research setting. This mission is not confined to the physical campuses but extends to our online presence. King Abdullah Center for Oncology and Liver Diseases (KACO&LD) at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre in Riyadh was inaugurated on Tuesday, April 11, 2017. It is the largest specialized center of its kind in the region, and represents a significant expansion to King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh with 300 beds in smart rooms plus 96 beds in the infusion centre (chemical and biological treatment) and 8 operating rooms equipped with the state-of-the-art specialized medical technology in addition to other medical support services such as radiology, pharmacy and laboratory, which will enable the Hospital to double the number of patients who are accepted and treated in the field of oncology and liver diseases. The KACO&LD’s smart technologies will provide a new and improved patient experience, and will also provide healthcare providers with access to the latest equipment and an enhanced working environment.

The King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre will continue to strive to be one of the regional leaders in healthcare. The transplant programs at this Institution are going from strength to strength and continue to build on past successes. We are very proud of our achievements in the field of transplantation especially when compared to world leading transplant centers in the UK and the US. King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre ranked 1st in Pediatric Liver and Kidney Transplants (<18 years old) compared with centers in the UK and the USA in 2016. Moreover, the OTC of KFSH&RC-Riyadh ranked 1st in the volume of living donor liver and kidney transplants compared with centers in the UK and ranked 6th in the volume of living donor kidney transplants compared with centers in the US in 2016. The patient and graft survival rates are comparable to the US transplant centers for all organs.

For more than 30 years, Academic & Training Affairs has provided outstanding and progressive educational activities as well as sophisticated audiovisual services. In 2004, this KFSH&RC-Riyadh was the first in the region to be accredited by the American Academy for Continuing Education (AACME). Currently, there are 22 residency training programs and 66 sub-specialty fellowship programs offered. In addition, there are 2 Allied Health Programs offered, which have attracted hundreds of allied health personnel, Hospital management and administrators who have seized the opportunity to develop and enhance their professional careers. From the year 2005 to June 2017, 376 medical and 613 non-medical scholarships have been awarded. Scholarship recipients study in a wide range of locations including North America, Europe and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the high level of their training is reflected in the fact that over 93% of scholarship recipients have been recruited to positions within the General Organization.

KFSH&RC-Riyadh is accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI) and is proud to be one of only six hospitals outside of the USA to have achieved Magnet Hospital status awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Centre (ANCC). Achieving Magnet Hospital designation is the highest and most prestigious honor a hospital can receive for excellence in nursing and quality patient care. Most recently, KFSH&RC-Riyadh was the first hospital outside of Northern America to be awarded Stage 7 HIMSS Electronic Medical Records, the highest level of using Electronic Health Records. As a leading tertiary healthcare institution in the region, it is with great pride that a full range of healthcare services is provided including Organ Transplantation, Cardiac Services, Medical Genetics, Neurosciences, Oncology and Pediatric Hematology Oncology, to name but a few.

Basic and translational research is a central component of our vision to be a world leading healthcare institution and it is with great pride that KFSH&RC-Riyadh is the country’s representative member and contributor to the International Cancer Genome consortium. The Research Centre has a robust and thriving scientific environment and is one of the leading centers of the Saudi Human Genome Program supported by the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology. The Research Centre is also well known in the region as one of the major contributors to molecular diagnostics and radiation medicine.
