Summary

Evaluates patient’s skills in the area of speech, language, voice, cognition, swallowing, and case management and establishes a plan of care. Provides independently treatment under periodic supervision as warranted.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

1.Provides quality habilitative/rehabilitative care for patients receiving speech language pathology and swallowing services.

2.Demonstrates knowledge of all departmental procedure manuals (i.e., diagnostic tests and equipment).

3.Conducts habilitative/rehabilitative treatment programs to restore communicative efficiency of individuals with communication problems of organic and non-organic etiology.

4.Ability to effectively communicate medical information, test results, proposed treatment, and diagnosis.

5.Discusses readiness of patient to be discharged with Head, Speech Language Pathology, and/or Inpatient/Outpatient Team Leaders. Ensures that any patient can be discharged if s/he has the co-signature of the head of speech language pathology section of the inpatient or outpatient team leader. 

6.Provides education to patients and caregiver as required.

7.Reviews treatment plans and assesses individual’s performance to modify, change or write new programme, and indicate prognosis with appropriate team leader(s) and/or head of Speech Language Pathology (SLP).

8.Maintains records as required by policies and administrative regulations.

9.Determines need for referral to other specialties in other areas and discusses with the head of SLP and/or in patient or outpatient team leaders.

10.Spends 80% of working hours in direct patient care and 20% of working hours to complete administrative responsibilities including: development of clinical and educational materials in Arabic, as well as participation in clinical research activities. The administrative time will also be utilized clinically when there is staff shortage as assigned by SLP head.

11.Follows all Hospital related policies and procedures.

12.Participates in self and others education, training, and development, as applicable. 

13.Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education

Master’s, or Bachelor’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology and Swallowing Sciences from accredited Universities with evidence of at least one (1) year of Clinical Internship in a Medical and/or Rehabilitative Services Facility is required.

Experience Required

*Grade 09:

Two (2) year’s with Master’s, or Four (4) years with Bachelor’s Degree of related experience in Speech Language Disorders in an accredited facility is required.

*Grade 10:

-Four (4) years as Speech Language Pathologist II at KFSH&RC.

-Average of annual performance appraisal at least (3.5) for the last four (4) years.

-One Hundred (100) hours of cumulative continued medical education [CME].

Other Requirements(Certificates)

* Current Registration from country of origin and Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS) is required.

* Must be bilingual (Arabic-English).

* Saudi Nationals Only.
