Summary

Performs optometric evaluation on children and adult patients and prescribes corrective action to gain normal and effective vision.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

1. Examines eyes by means of instrumentation and observation to determine visual efficiency and performance, diseases, and other abnormalities and prescribes corrective procedures; to include fitting of glasses and contact lenses, conventional and soft; improves and corrects vision through use of lenses, vision therapy, visual training, and control of visual environment.

2. Examines patients for visual pathology or ocular manifestations of systemic diseases, and refers those with pathological conditions to the Ophthalmologist for further diagnosis and treatment.

3. Treats and manages the binocular vision anomalies in children and improves visual efficiency and performance of ocular motility.

4. Assesses and treats partially sighted patients’ (legally blind) by means of low vision aid and visual rehabilitation.

5. Fits, dispenses, cleans, and sterilizes contact lenses.

6. Instructs patients on insertion, removal and care of contact lenses.

7. Maintains and manages inventory of contact lenses, instruments and other necessary items.

8. Communicates with patients regarding follow-up care, procedures, changes in symptoms, etc.

9. Troubleshoots difficult contact lens fits and identifies potential options for resolution.

10. Evaluates the proper fitting of adult/child contact lens treatment plan.

11. Prescribes specific ocular medications for specific eye diseases.

12. Follows all Hospital-related policies and procedures.

13. Participates in self and other’s education, training and development, as applicable.

14. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education

Master’s or Bachelor’s Degreein Optometry is required.

Experience Required

Four (4) years of relatedexperience with Masters, or five (5) years with Bachelor’s Degree is required.

Other Requirements(Certificates)

• Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS)is required.
