Plans, organizes and directs all aspects of the Social Services section.Responsible for the supervision and monitoring of patients’ social needs.
1. Plans, directs, organizes and controls the overall operations of the section.
2. Establishes and implements internal procedures and ensures that socialwork services, recreational services and morgue services are guided by writtenpolicies and procedures; develops, and recommends changes, as needed. Ensuresthat Social Workers are aware of, and utilize all available resources in thecommunity.
3. Ensures that patients are provided with emotional and financial support,as appropriate.
4. Ensures that patients/families are provided with temporary (duringfollow-up) accommodation referral.
5. Manages social work cases, staff hours and assignments to suit the needsof patients and the Hospital, assists clinical Social Workers in improving diagnosticprocedures.
6. Ensures that patients receive individual or group counselling as needed.Represents the Hospital in community medical counselling activities. RecommendsPatient Health Education Programs as related to patients, medical problems andpreventative medicines. Implements Patient Safety Programs.
7. Identifies patients’ needs and develops quality Social Services Programsto meet these needs; provides clinical social work for outpatients andinpatients. Coordinates social work consultation with Medical, Nursing,Administrative staff and community agencies.
8. Coordinates with outside community resources (Governmental orcharitable) to recommend new needed services to improve existing services.
9. Evaluates performance of supervisory/professional staff in the section;identifies training needs and continuing education programs to meet thoseneeds.
10. Recommends employment, promotion and release of personnel in accordancewith the Hospital’s policies and/or procedures.
11. Implements management information systems; submits periodic reports ofthe section’s activities and develops adequate policies and procedures tomaintain confidentiality of patient’s information.
Master’sor Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or other related discipline is required.
Six (6)years with Master’s, or eight (8) years with Bachelor’s Degree, including two (2)years at a Supervisory/Senior position is required.
