Summary

Responsible for a specified procedural area to perform Clinical Neurophysiology Procedures.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

BASIC FUNCTION

Performs Neurophysiology Tests.

Education

Bachelor’s , or Associate Degree/Diploma in Clinical Neurophysiology or successful completion of a formal two-year program in Clinical Neurophysiology or other related discipline is required.

Experience Required

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

1. Ensures a proper environment for testing. Applies electrodes and sensors to predetennined positions. Performs Digital EEGs, Evoked Potentials, Sleep Studies and Long Term Video/DEEG, in both Adult and Pediatric patients. Operates equipment for recording ofEEGs, VEPs, BAEPs, and SEPs. Adjusts settings of equipment to ensure proper test results.

2. Assists physician with invasive diagnostic procedures such as 10M, ECOG, EMGand NCS.

3. Observes patient reactions during testing. Notes signs of distress or medical emergencies, such as seizures, takes remedial action and notifies physician.

4. Obtains medical history of patient and summarizes relevant data. Prepares patient for testing. Puts patient at ease by explaining test procedures.

5. Coordinates patient testing with Nursing Services as required. Takes mobile equipmento nursing floors to perform tests when necessary.

6. Makes preliminary analysis and description of the trace or potential to ensure that it is acceptable, notes pertinent data and prepares it for physician review.

7. Ensures safe operation of equipment. Informs supervisor of equipment faults. Maintains work area. Ensures adequate levels of stocks and supplies.

8. Follows all hospital policies and procedures.

9. Participates in self and others' education, training and development, as applicable.

10. Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Successful completion of a formal two-year program in Clinical Neurophysiology

EXPERIENCE a OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Board registered in EEG/Electrodiagnostics or *equivalent is required (*Certification through examination from an accredited Electroneurodiagnostic Program). Two years post qualification experience as a Neurophysiology Technologist in an Acute Care Hospital setting is required.
