Summary
Plans, develops, coordinates, conducts and evaluates life support programs utilizing principles of adult learning and evidence-based practice. Provides leadership in resuscitation education. Plans and coordinates Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) courses.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
1. Develops effective rapport with internal and external stakeholders to conduct life support courses for them and establish new training sites.
2. Provides support and/or leadership for educational needs analysis, development, implementation and ongoing evaluation/updates of life support curriculum, and establishes and maintenances of resuscitation education standards.
3. Assures compliance to standards as required by accrediting bodies like the American Heart Association (AHA)/Saudi Heart Association (SHA).
4. Ensures administrative well-being of the LSTC by ensuring retention and recruitment of staff, budget management, stock and supply management.
5. Oversees the LSTC as an AHA International Training Centre; communicates directly and effectively with the AHA and SHA regarding all related matters; key resource person for review of recent literature and upgrade of courses; and conduct additional programs effectively as needed. 6. Plans, coordinates and instructs within the LSTC to provider basic and advanced Life Support courses for certification of hospital staff and individuals from other facilities within the Kingdom.
7. Interacts with the community and provides its citizens cardiopulmonary resuscitation courses.
8. Reviews and writes articles for relevant publication (Hospital newsletter). 9. Monitors instructor candidates and instructors. Provides resources and information for their activities. Actively participates as instructor and instructor trainer in all LSTC courses. Administers required written and skills tests. Evaluates student and instructor performance, determines if requirements for certification or recertification are meets. Signs and issues course completion cards. Counsels student and instructor as necessary.
10. Participates in appropriate committees such as the CPR committee. Interacts with other departments and assists them with certification of relevant staff.
11. Oversees the conduction and reviewing of mock codes within the institution as applicable.
12. Utilizes appropriate resources to meet training goals of the LSTC. Distributes and/or delegates responsibilities and projects to junior instructors and other staff.
13. Coordinates with Nursing Affairs for CPR training of all new Nursing orienteer.
Education
Masters or Bachelor Degree of Science in Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Emergency Paramedic, or other related disciple is required.
Experience Required
Eight (8) years of related experience with Masters, or ten (10) years with Bachelor’s Degree is required.
Other Requirements(Certificates)
- MD from a recognized medical school is preferred.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) certification as a Basic and Advanced Life Support Provider and Instructor required.
- Previous Basic Life Support and Advance Life Support teaching experience preferred.
- Teaching for two (2) years as a full-time BLS and ALS instructor, or teaching for 5 years as a part-time BLS and ALS instructor is required.
- At least one (l) year of experience in AHA course coordination is required.
