Anesthesiology
Our Anesthesiology Department is divided into eight sub-sections, namely, Cardiac Anesthesia, Oncology Anesthesia, Obstetrics, Pediatric Anesthesia, General, Neuroanesthesia, Pain Management section, and Anesthesia Technology Section Our expert anesthesiologists provide anesthesia services for over 15,000 minor and major surgical procedures per year. We also extend our services to patients in the labor and delivery room, radiology suites, and radiation therapy and endoscopy unit. At any point of time, approximately 40 anesthesia residents and 5–6 fellows in addition to assistant consultants and consultants from around the world are available to attend to patients and provide optimal perioperative care.
The department also provides the following other services, with their respective times:
- Pre-Anesthesia Clinic (7:30 am – 6 pm, 5 days a week)
- Acute Pain Management Service (24/7)
- Inpatient Consultation (24/7)
- Emergency surgical or other procedures that require the services of an anesthesiologist are covered by an "on-call" anesthesiologist 24 hours per day, seven (7) days per week (or after hours) for both general and cardiac surgery. There are also separate pain consulting and a liver transplant anesthetic teams on call 24/7 from home.
Scope of Services:
The Department of Anesthesiology provides anesthesia services for all general, regional, monitored, deep sedation, and pain management procedures as follows:
- Cover all specialties and patients's category ASA I-V.
- Anesthesia Services are provided to the following departments:
- Operating Rooms - inpatient and outpatient
- Obstetrical Suites
- Imaging Services Department
- Clinics
- Emergency Department
- Outpatient Surgery Areas
- Special Procedure Areas, i.e., GI Lab, Pain Management Clinic
- Others
- In addition, the anesthetist should assist in all cardiopulmonary resuscitations in the hospital. Neonatal resuscitation, however, is normally performed by a pediatrician, if available. The on-call anesthesia teams are also alerted for all trauma or code amber (disasters) and there exists a defined sub plan how to escalate any major trauma/disasters where the existing on call resources are not sufficient. Regular hospital wide drills are performed.
