The Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP) was established in the United States of America and includes voluntary standards, on-site assessment and accreditation process for disaster preparedness programs throughout the world. EMAP aims to foster excellence and accountability in Emergency Management and security programs, by establishing credible standards applied in a peer review accreditation process to foster continuous improvement in Emergency (disaster) Management capabilities. It provides Emergency Management programs the opportunity to be recognized for compliance with industry standards, to demonstrate accountability, and to focus attention on areas and issues where resources are needed. Emergency Management includes prevention of, mitigation against, preparedness for, response to, and recovery from disasters or emergencies. EMAP is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
In April of 2018, KFSH&RC-Riyadh became the first hospital in the world and the first organization in the Middle East to achieve this accreditation and was also honored as EMAP’s 100th accredited Emergency (disaster) Management program.
